Oh The Memories.......

I am thinking back on past Thanksgiving's with my wonderful family. The amazing food, fun & fellowship that we always had. Now that my Grandfather & one of my Uncles are in Heaven, the memories have become very precious to me. Tonight, I was finally able to make my Grandmother's cranberry relish. OMG that is some good food. I am so proud of myself for mastering this very easy & very yummy dish. I'm looking forward to eating it tomorrow!!

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of year. We get to look back & talk about what we are thankful for. I am thankful for my Salvation, my husband, my son, my family, my pets, my health & many many others things in life.

What are you thankful for this year?

New AWANA & School Year

Well, here I am at the start of a new AWANA year as well as a new school year. Taylor will be starting 1st grade on Sept 7th & AWANA will be starting on Sept 8th. I cannot believe how fast the summer has flown by. I swear that we just ended AWANA yesterday. But I am glad to start a new year. I've missed the kiddos in our group & am looking forward to meeting some new kiddos this year.

As for school, we are starting our new wake up schedule tomorrow morning. I get to get up at 6:15am Monday to Friday, then I have to get Taylor up at 6:45am, then we have to leave the house by 7:35am in order to get hom to school by 8:00am. At least he is at school all day this year so that I can get things done around the house.

I'm not sure how Taylor is feeling about going back to school. He goes back & forth every day - one day he is excited for school, the next he is telling me he won't go & I can't make him. Oh well, as it gets closer I am sure that he will get excited about being with his friends again.

Well, I have to get ready for the AWANA leaders meeting soon.

Good New On Daron!!!

Well we have made it through the crazy appointment in Ann Arbor this week. First we had an MRI, then saw the doctor, them he had his infusion. When we saw the doctor he told us & showed us that Daron has lesions that have shrunk in size or disappeared all together. That is amazing news!! I am so thankful that we can finally see the meds working as well as see an answer to the many prayers.

So right now I am sitting here enjoying the breeze in my in-laws back yard. Thank you to all who have prayed for my husband, for my son & for me. It is still a long road ahead of us, but with the Lord's strength we can get through it.

VBS 2010 was Awesome!!

Well VBS 2010 is in the books & we had another wonderful year. We had a high of 78 kiddos who had fun singing, making crafts, eating cookies, playing games, learning verses & hearing a Bible story each day. We took the kids to a space station & they were new space cadets who where learning the B.A.S.I.C's of the Christian life. Each day they learned a new letter of the day & what it meant. Monday they learned that B stood for Book of Books - the Bible is the best of all books every written, has all of the answers that we need & will never steer us in the wrong direction. Tuesday they learned that A stood for Absolute Authority - God is the Absolute Authority in all things in our lives. Wednesday they learned that S stood for Salvation Story - God sent His only Son for us in order that we can be saved. Thursday they learned that I stood for Incredible Impact - the Bible has had an incredible impact on the world & continues to have an impact. Finally they learned that C stood for Cadet Challenge - they were challenged to take everything that they have learned & use it to impact their world.

I was so humbled by these amazing kiddos on Friday. I was leading songs all week & had only chosen 4 songs - the Books of the Old Testament, the Books of the New Testament, God of Wonders & How Great Is Our God. They learned all of the songs wonderfully & on Friday we were singin How Great Is Our God when I had an idea to have the kiddos sing the chorus accapella. I was amazed at how well they did. So when we were closing out our final day of VBS right before we dismissed them in prayer, I had them do it again. This time though brought me to tears. We opened the doors to the foyer so that the parents could hear us. Those 70+ kids raised their voices loudly (without yelling) to the point that they filled the sanctuary & it spilled out into the foyer. WOW!!!! All of us there got a glimpse of heaven at that moment. I am still brought to tears thinking about that amazing experience. Thank you Lord for allowing me to be apart of that moment!!

Well, now that VBS is over, it is time to start planning AWANA which starts in September. I love my life!!!

Happy 4th of July!!

Well we have had an interesting 4th of July weekend already. My Mom offered to take Taylor on Friday night, so Daron & I had until 5pm Saturday without a kiddo. Daron & I decided to enjoy that time alone by going to see the movie Grown Ups. It was hilarious!! I mean, when you put Adam Sandler, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock & Rob Schneider all in the same movie, you really aren't sure what you will end up with. But this was a great family-friendly movie.

Ok, enough of my movie review. :-)

After we picked up Taylor from my Mom's we went home, I made dinner & we decided to go watch the Kentwood fireworks. Taylor was excited to go see them, but I think that he had more fun playing with the other kids that were there then he did watching the fireworks. Oh well. That's one of the joys of being a kid right?

Today we had church & then the annual 4th of July church picnic. I was going to try a recipe that I found on my friend Megan's blog (What Megan's Making), but decided against it due to the heat. I didn't want to be stuck dealing with a hot oven in 92 degree weather. But I will try to make the Sugar Cookie Bars as soon as it cools down.

Well, I guess that I should get going since I have to leave soon. Gotta get the church ready for VBS this week. I think that the kiddos will have fun learning about the amazing universe that God has created.

Update after Daron's Appointment

Well I found out that the doctor is going to put Daron on 2 new meds. One med is supposed to help him with his walking - it causes the nerve fibers to fire quicker so that his legs will move faster & better. The other med is a nasal spray that will help with his bladder issues. We will hopefully have both of these meds by the end of summer. Next month we have a very busy appointment. He has to have an MRI, then see the doctor, then have his infusion all in one day. But with having the MRI the doctor will be able to see how things are going in his brain - if he's gotten better or a little worse. So please keep praying about that.

Have a great day!!

Wonderful Father's Day

Well I got the surprise of a lifetime!! My Dad showed up at my church today between church & the ABF hour. He has been in Afghanistan since March & was sent home for some R & R for two weeks. He just got in yesterday (June 19). I was so schocked when he showed up & was proud to be able to show him off to my Good News family & Friends. He is here until July 5 & then will have to go back to Afghanistan until January 2011. Wow, I thought that the kids are supposed to do something surprising for the Dad's not the other way around. But the look on Taylor's face was priceless. His jaw hit the floor & he almost couldn't move for a minute. He later told me that seeing his Grandpa took his breath away. I can't wait to see what his reaction is going to be in January when I bring my Dad into his 1st grade class.

BUSY day today

Well, today is going to be super busy. I am babysitting today, Daron has PT, I have a piano lesson, all 3 of us have to drive to Utica to drop Taylor off with my in-laws, Daron & I have to then drive to Ann I said, busy day. So let me break it down a little bit.

I'm babysitting until 3:30pm
Daron has PT at 10:30am
I have a piano lesson at 4:30pm
After my lesson all 4 of us have to drive 2.5 hours to Utica to drop Taylor off at my in-laws for the night
Then Daron & I will drive another 1 - 1.5 hour to Ann Arbor to the hotel since Daron has his monthly appointment tomorrow

Can't believe how busy everything is today. Oh well, we all got to relax this weekend with Tara's family at the cottage. At least Taylor is done with school for the summer & will get to hang out with his cousin Chase who he rarely see's. So he is looking forward to it & I am looking forward to being able to talk to Daron's doctor again about the changes to Daron's meds.

Well, time to get off the computer so that I can get a shower & stack packing 2 seperate bags for tonight. Have a great day!!
Here's a fun pic of Taylor that was taken at our last ABF class party.

Well we are once again facing a new medication for Daron's MS. I am not sure which med they are going to put him on yet, but I will find out next week when we head to Ann Arbor for yet another infusion. I am hoping that this is the last or almost last infusion & that the new med will be easier. There are a few new meds on the market that can be taken by mouth or injection, so I am not really sure what type they are going to put him on.

Daron is having a few issues with strength in his legs, so he is having some issues walking or even standing up. Mentally he has problems with remembering things, especially really simple things that he has done for years. Emotionally he has gotten some issues under control with the help of counseling & medication. I am thankful that I have my husband with me every day & am praying for a long time with him. I will continue to keep you updated as I get information.

Oh, in case you are wondering, the color of my blog is to remind you that MS is everywhere. Orange is the awareness color for MS (plus, orange & black are Daron's high school colors).

Memorial Day

I am a multi-generation Military brat. My Grandfather was in the Army during the Korean War. My Dad was in the Navy for 17 years. My Husband was in the Army & spent 3 months in Kuwait during the first Gulf War. My Brother was in the Marines. My baby Brother is in the Army National Guard. My Dad is now in the Army National Guard & is serving in Afghanistan until January.

I am so proud to be a Military brat. I am very proud of every single member of my family who has served for this country. I am very proud to say that I have a family member who has served in all branches of the Military except the Coast Guard & the Air Force. My family mean so much to me!

The Memorial Day please stop to take a moment to Thank God for all of our soldiers & their familes. Remember that for every soldier who is in the Military, there is a family at home praying that they will stay safe & come home in one piece. For every soldier, there is a family who doesn't want to watch the news for fear that they will hear of their loved ones base being bombed.

This Memorial Day, remember those soldiers from wars gone by who have given their loves in order to give us the freedom that we have today!

This Memorial Day, if you see a soldier, please shake their hand & thank them for their service to our wonderful country!!!

Gotta love the warm weather

It has been awhile since I have posted, so I thought I would do a little update on the family. Taylor is doing well in school. He loves Science & Social Studies. He is ahead of where he should be in Language Arts & right where he needs to be in Math. He is right on track for 1st grade in the fall. He loves school so much that he asks to leave at 9:30am - he doesn't have to be there until Noon. He has made friends & looks forward to seeing them each day. He loved Spring Break - he was outside every day of the week that he could be. Now he is kind of looking forward to Summer vacation.

Daron is doing well. He has had a rough couple of weeks so he is having some walking issues again. He is currently looking forward to going on the Men's Retreat with the guys from church. He is also enjoying the warm weather - we have the windows open every day that we can.

I on the other hand had a rough few weeks. I had pneumonia for 2 weeks & am still recovering from it. So I am playing catch up on everything around the house & with many other things. But that is the life of a wife & mom. With Sparks ending in the next few weeks my days are getting busier, but that is normal for this time of year. Then I have to buckle down & focus on VBS. I actually look forward to this time of year. I know that sounds crazy, but its true.

So there is a little update on the family. Hope you are able to enjoy the amazing weather we are having!!

Praying for a wonderful 2010

Well, 2009 was a very tough year for our family so we are praying for a wonderful 2010. Daron & I are trying to plan a trip down south to go to the wedding of one of his army buddies in March. That is proving to be tough because of finances. But we have (or at least I have) decided that if we do not have the finances by march 1st, we won't be going.

Taylor is getting closer to having been in school for 100 days this year. Wow it has gone by fast!! Can't believe that he is inching closer to being done with Kindergarden & getting ready for 1st grade. Thankfully he still loves going to school.

Daron's health has either mellowed out or is getting ready for another flare. It is tough to say which it is. But I am just trying to prepare myself for either.

I am working on starting a Caregiver Support Ministry at church. I am so excited about this!! All of the amazing caregivers in the church desperately needs this support ministry. I am thankful that God has provided me with this wonderful opportunity.

Well, there is my life in a nutshell for now. =)

Two Years...How Is That Possible?

How is it possible that two years ago today Daron left this earth and entered Heaven? It still feels like it was yesterday at times. This y...
